Burn Your Enemies With New LoL Mage Item Malignance
New Lol Mage item ‘Malignance’ to boost up your ultimate while inflicting AoE damage on burned ground.
As League of Legends season 2024 knocks at the door, it is a good time to look at all the upcoming changes because the list is quite a mountain this time around. Map structure, Mythic system, Baron Nashor, Rift Herald, and other objectives – everything is going to receive changes in the new season. And these changes will be massive for each, potentially altering the gameplay on a fundamental level.
Item changes, due to their massive direct impact on every champion, are the most important of all, in my opinion. Since mythic items are getting removed with the addition of newer ones, it is worth taking a look at each one of them individually. Almost every class of champions will have their core items shifted. Assassins, Marksman, support, mage – they are all getting new items with new perks.
One such item designed for mages is Malignance. In this article, I’ll be talking about its description and how it works.

Malignance Item Description

- 20 Ability Haste
- 600 Mana
- Ultimate Power: Gain 15 Ability Haste for your Ultimate.
- Ultimate Flames: Whenever you damage an enemy champion with your Ultimate, burn the ground beneath them for 3 seconds, dealing 60 (+6% AP) magic damage every second and reducing their Magic Resistance by (6-12 [level scaling]) for as long as they are on the burning ground.
What makes Malignance great?
The regular stats such as AP, Ability Haste, and Mana are nothing special for a mage item. For a 3k Gold item, these are quite standard.
It’s the passives that set this item apart from the rest. The first one, ‘Ultimate Power’, is pretty straightforward, as its name. It just gives you 15 ability haste for your ultimate, sort of like a toned-down version of Axiom Arc’s passive but without conditions.
The next one is its signature effect. Ultimate Flames, as the name suggests, once cast on a champion, ignites the ground under them. It’s quite similar to Morgana’s W but with a slightly different mechanism. Ultimate Flames deals base 60 + 6% bonus Magic Damage as long as the champion is in contact with the area of its effect. Moreover, if the enemy doesn’t leave that area, they will have their Magic Resistance shredded by 6-12 (depending on level) for each second for a maximum of 3 seconds.
It creates the theoretical possibility of having the enemy’s practical MR reduced to 0 if the right conditions are fulfilled. Because the passive doesn’t have a Cooldown as of yet. If you keep damaging the enemy consistently without 3 seconds, then you can keep the lowered MR intact for the duration of your fight.
So far, it looks kind of broken due to this passive. The good news is it’s still in PBE, and if it turns out to be unbalanced, they can modify it before deploying it on live servers.
When will Malignance be added in LoL?
All the new items, including this, are set to be released in early January 2024 as patch 14.1 is deployed on all live servers. Currently, you can try out the PBE 13.24 for preseason to check all the upcoming changes yourself.
