Community Matters: Local business owner donates back pay to Hyde House employees
BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — Dan Landucci, the owner of Paddles Up Poké, has offered to donate back pay to the employees of the Hyde House who say they weren't paid for weeks.
The Hyde House closed abruptly on April 20th, and former employees say all of their checks from the company bounced. Rich Connelly, whose daughter worked for Hyde House, set up a GoFundMe to help the former employees.
"As of April 20th, 2022, there are at least nine employees who have confirmed that they still not been paid for the hours they worked," Conelly said. "After initial promises from the owners to get the employees paid, the owners have completely ceased communications with former employees, leaving them without hundreds or thousands of dollars in due wages and struggling with overdraft fees and bills to pay."
"Hyde House employed many young workers who were just getting out on their own and now face life-altering debts, hundreds of dollars in overdraft fees and potential credit issues that could plague them for years to come," he added.
To date, the GoFundMe has raised $2,460, while some employees reported more than $1,000 in lost wages.
After reading about this struggle, Landucci decided to step in and help.
"I’m glad bad things travel so quickly in Boise, so we can have the opportunity to make it right," Landucci said.
"Our prayers were answered and a very generous local business owner has stepped forward to help these employees out," Conelly said. "We want to give thanks to Dan Landucci of Paddles Up Poke for stepping up in such a big way."
