Jannik Sinner is the World No.1 right now. He made it to the top after dethroning Novak Djokovic during the Roland Garros last week. Djokovic’s long-standing on-court rival Roger Federer, who is enjoying his time off courts post retirement, is happy to see Sinner reach a landmark in his career.
Sinner was assured of the top position when Djokovic pulled himself out of the Roland Garros quarterfinal against Casper Ruud due to his knee injury. The Italian, who dealt with a defeat to World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz in his first French Open semifinal, became the first from his country to stand atop the rankings.
Sinner, however, has a year to celebrate, having won his maiden Grand Slam title in Australia. Then two titles- at ATP Rotterdam and the Miami Open- only improved his rankings. Sinner has been impressing the fans worldwide and his game and his on-court behavior have piqued Federer’s interest as well.
It's fantastic that an Italian is No. 1. Sinner deserves it, he's a great guy, very sweet. I follow him with great interest.Roger Federer told La Gazzetta dello Sport

Roger Federer gave advice to Jannik Sinner before the Halle Open in 2019
Back in 2019, a 17-year-old Jannik Sinner, who received a wild card, played a warm-up match against Roger Federer before the Halle Open, which the Swiss Maestro went on to win for the 10th time. Although the two have never met on the ATP Tour, Sinner cherishes those moments he shared on courts with the 20-time Grand Slam champion.
In Halle this year, Sinner had a chance to recall the advice Federer gave him. The 42-year-old told the youngster to enjoy himself on the court without forgetting that he would always need to work hard.
I didn't have many, so I do remember every single one, more or less. He gave me just a kind of mental advice: try to enjoy it and keep looking forward to working hard. That's the only thing he told me, and it was very nice to share a court with him.Jannik Sinner said (via ATP Tour)
Sinner arrived at Halle after his Roland Garros exit. After the event in Germany, the 22-year-old will be aiming for his maiden Wimbledon trophy. His best performance in the grass-court Grand Slam event came in 2023 when he made it to the semifinals.
