Irrfan Khan was born in a pathan family. His parents ran a tyre business. He completed his MA in Jaipur then joined the National School of Drama in New Delhi in 1984.

Acting career-
Beginning (1987-1990)-
- He debuted with Salaam Bombay!
- He was casted in Laal Ghas par Neele Ghode, then as a main antagonist in Darr.
- He acted in many TV serials like Bharat ek khoj, Chandrakanta, Sparsh.

Illness- He was diagnosed with neuroendocrine tumor in March 2018.
He was admitted in Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani hospital for colon infection on 28 April 2020. He died the following day.
His mother had died 4 days before that.
