Matt Hardy reveals that another former WWE Champions AEW contract is set to expire soon
In recent times, a lot of AEW wrestlers’ contracts have expired, with most of them opting to leave the promotion. Legends like Arn Anderson, Mark Henry, and Jake Hager all announced that they wouldn’t be re-signing with the company. Another fan-favorite wrestler’s contract is set to expire soon, and the name in question is Jeff Hardy.
While speaking on his podcast, The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, the veteran was asked about the contract status of his brother. He stated that Jeff Hardy is cleared to wrestle and is just waiting at home for the phone to ring. Although Matt Hardy admitted that he was happy at home spending time with his family, he also wanted to end his career on a high note. The elder brother further revealed that Jeff’s contract was set to expire in mid-June.
The 49-year-old legend’s contract also expired a couple of months ago. While he brought back the “Broken” gimmick in TNA, he revealed that he hasn’t signed a long-term deal with any promotion. Meanwhile, Jeff last wrestled in a match against Sammy Guevera in February earlier this year. Since then, he has been out of action due to a broken nose.
He's been cleared. He's just sitting at home, waiting for the call. He's sitting at home just waiting on that phone call, jumping on the trampoline up and down with the dumbbells. But yeah, he's got till like mid-June or so l think, and then his deal's up. So l guess we'll see if he ends up resigning or not re-signing. Both brothers weren’t happy with the way they were treated by the company. It looks like Jeff will soon follow in the footsteps of his brother and become a free agent. Only time will tell whether the legend departs from the Jacksonville-based company or not once his contract expires.
Matt Hardy explained Ethan Page’s WWE move
On the latest episode of NXT, Ethan Page made his debut and attacked NXT Champion Trick Williams. He became the second AEW wrestler to switch companies after Shawn Spears this year. Matt Hardy explained his transition from the Jacksonville-based company to WWE in an interview, outlining the potential benefits for him.
While speaking on the same podcast, the hardcore legend spoke very highly of Page. He stated that they developed a good relationship after working on a storyline in AEW. Hardy felt that All Ego was a perfect fit for WWE rather than AEW because he saw him as a proper entertainer.
I think Ethan Page is more of an entertainer than he's a wrestler. But he's a great wrestler; he's a great athlete. That's why he didn't get a better opportunity at AEW. That's just my personal guess or my personal take. But him being on NXT, I think, is the perfect spot for him.Matt Hardy via the Extreme Life Of Matt Hardy podcast
The 34-year-old star was revealed to be the attacker of Noam Dar and Oro Mensah. Page made his intentions clear from the first day by attacking the NXT Champion. That being said, he is expected to square off against Williams for the title at Battleground.
