Peggy Sue Of Buddy Holly Fame Dies
LUBBOCK, Texas (CelebrityAccess) Peggy Sue Gerron Rackham, 78, aka the inspiration for Buddy Holly’s song “Peggy Sue,” has died at a Lubbock, Texas, hospital Oct. 1.
Gerron released her autobiography “Whatever Happened To Peggy Sue?: A Memoir by Buddy Holly’s Peggy Sue” in 20018 to commemorate the song’s 50th anniversary. Gerron, who met Holly and his friends during high school in Lubbock, said the autobiography was culled by about 150 diary entries from that time.
“I wanted to give him (Holly) his voice. It’s my book, my memoirs,” she said about her book, according to a 2008 Associated Press story. “We were very, very good friends. He was probably one of the best friends I ever had.”
Peggy Sue got married – to Crickets drummer Jerry Allison. They eventually divorced.
